A-League Expansion: The teams and stadiums

Ten bidders have been shortlisted by FFA for the next stage of the A-League expansion process including three each from Sydney and Melbourne.

The A-League will expand from 10 to 12 teams for the 2019/20 season before gradually building towards 14 and then 16 teams.

It means five bidders failed to make the cut: Gold Coast United (Cbus Super Stadium), Fremantle City (nib Stadium / upgraded Fremantle Oval), West Adelaide (Coopers Stadium), Tasmania (North Hobart Oval TBC), Belgravia Leisure (Stadium TBC). Brisbane Strikers had previously ruled themselves out in May, ruling out a redeveloped Perry Park.

The 10 A-League expansion bids shortlisted are as follows:

South-West Sydney FC – Based in Liverpool, home venue TBC.

United for Macarthur – Campbelltown Sports Stadium

Southern Expansion – Southern Cross Group Stadium, Jubilee Oval & WIN Stadium (matches to be shared between three stadiums).

Team 11 – Proposed Dandenong Stadium

South Melbourne – Lakeside Stadium

Western Melbourne – Proposed Wyndham Stadium

Brisbane City – Redeveloped Ballymore Stadium

Ipswich Pride – QLD Group Stadium (TBC)

Canberra – GIO Stadium & Potential new stadium

Wollongong Wolves – WIN Stadium
